Encourage Friends and Family to Vote
On November 6th, 35% of the Senate and 100% of the House of Representatives will be up for re-election. This in addition to the many legislative seats and ballot measures, initiatives, and propositions that will affect your community at the city, county, regional, and state level. Suffice it to say that it is critical that everyone vote!
To make sure this happens, grab your mobile and take a few minutes to call, text, or instant message your friends and family to a) nudge them to register to vote (or make sure they are already registered), b) inform them of candidates and legislation about which you are passionate (be sure to give them links they can follow for more information!), and c) encourage them to vote on November 6th. You might discover that you and a friend are both passionate about the same candidate – maybe you can then get together on a weekend to canvass for their campaign. You might also learn that someone else wants to vote but isn’t sure they can get to the ballot box that day. Maybe you can give them a ride, float them a bus ticket, or connect them to a friend who can give them a lift? (If you live in a community that has Lyft or Uber, they are offering free or discounted rides to polling places on election day!)
Whether you decide to get involved in get out the vote efforts beyond encouraging friends and family is ultimately up to you. Can’t hurt to text or call them though so do it now while you’re thinking about it!
